What Microsoft Azure does
Azure Backup is Microsoft's centralized backup service, protecting on-premises and cloud workloads with air-gapped, immutable backup copies; Azure Site Recovery separately handles failover orchestration, replicating on-premises physical servers and VMs to Azure so operations can fail over if a primary site goes down. As of May 2025 both run from Microsoft's Malaysia West region (Greater Kuala Lumpur), giving in-country data residency.
