Google Drive to Synology NAS migration for a Sabah accounting and advisory firm

The challenge

The client was paying for around 1TB of Google Drive storage and wanted their data moved to an on-premises Synology NAS, with proper access control set up for around 30 users.

The solution

We used Synology Cloud Sync to download all data from Google Drive to the NAS on a schedule outside business hours, then remapped network drives on every user's PC to point at the new NAS.

The result

The client cut their cloud storage subscription cost to zero by moving to a perpetual on-premises solution, and gained the ability to keep working during internet outages since all files are now stored locally.
